The Art of Networking and Current Trends in the Lubricant Market

Abstract: Consultants working in the chemical industry need to develop a network of contacts they can turn to for assistance in working on existing projects for clients and finding new opportunities. This talk will provide a personal perspective on networking that the speaker has discovered in traversing through the chemical industry over the past 40+ years. Included will be discussions on what is networking, why network, how to build a network, and guidance for those new to consulting. The second segment of the talk will briefly discuss key trends in the lubricant market where this individual has spent most of his time consulting.

Biography: Neil Canter received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1983 and his BS in Chemistry from Brown University in 1978. He has been working in the chemical and lubricant industries for over 40 years. Neil previously worked for Stepan Company and Mayco. Presently, Neil runs his own consulting company called Chemical Solutions. He specializes in commercial development, marketing, product development and regulatory support for the lubricant industry. Neil is a member of the American Chemical Society, SAE and STLE. He is also a long-standing member of the Chemical Consultants Network.
