Reducing Cost of Manufacture of Organic Chemicals Using Phase-Transfer Catalysis
PTC Technology Phase-Transfer Catalysis, "PTC," is used in the manufacture of approximately $10 billion/yr of polymers, monomers, pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, additives, dyes, flavors & fragrances, surfactants and many other specialty and fine chemicals and intermediates. PTC is widely used in industry since it offers high yield with reduced cycle time, reduced or no added solvent, mild reaction conditions, enhanced environmental performance, advantageous alternate raw materials (especially for base-catalyzed reactions), higher plant operability and sometimes better selectivity, for many common commercial organic reactions. The scope of PTC applications is enormous with >1500 patents in 25 reaction categories. This 1.5 hr seminar will cover:
(including C-/N-/S-/chiral alkylations, etherification, cyanation, azidation, dehydrochlorination, oxidation, reduction and polymerization) Each seminar attendee will receive a 42-page Phase-Transfer Catalysis Reference Booklet which contains guidelines for choosing a phase-transfer catalyst to enhance reactivity and catalyst separation, as well as the details and references for the PTC applications discussed in the seminar. Dr. Halpern has provided PTC training and consulting services at > 100 industrial sites in the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia since 1995 and has helped chemical companies save > $17 million/year. Dr. Halpern has an impressive track record during his 15 years in industry at Dow, ICI and Sybron as a process chemist through R&D Director. Dr. Halpern co-authored the best-selling PTC book "Phase-Transfer Catalysis: Fundamentals, Applications and Industrial Perspectives" (Chapman and Hall, 1994), edited the book "Phase-Transfer Catalysis: Mechanism and Syntheses" (ACS, 1997), wrote the PTC chapter in Ullmann's Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemistry and is editor of "Phase-Transfer Catalysis Communications," the only publication dedicated to industrial phase-transfer catalysis. In 1998, Dr. Halpern founded PTC Organics, Inc. which is the only company dedicated to using Phase-Transfer Catalysis technology as a solution for custom manufacturing and producing organic chemicals at attractive prices and high quality.
The cost for the seminar, conducted at your company site, is $1800 plus reasonable travel expenses. The fee includes conducting discussions with your company's technical staff to discuss specific opportunities for improving proces performance and profit using Phase-Transfer Catalysis. The discussions can be conducted under secrecy agreement, if proprietary information needs to be disclosed. |
