Dr. Peter Scott is an expert in the development, evaluation, and application of in vivo radiopharmaceuticals in a wide variety of pre-clinical and clinical research settings. Dr. Scott has over a decades experience in all aspects of organic chemistry, radiochemistry and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging, from the development and in vitro/in vivo validation of new radiopharmaceuticals, to the application of new or existing PET radiopharmaceuticals to answer basic biochemical or drug development questions, and to the application of PET imaging in clinical research.
Specific expertise is available in all aspects of PET imaging including:
- Cyclotron and radiochemistry facility design.
- Design, synthesis and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals labeled with fluorine-18, carbon-11, nitrogen-13, oxygen-15 and radioactive metal ions (e.g. gallium-67/68, copper-64, zirconium-89 etc.).
- Pre-clinical evaluation of PET radiopharmaceuticals using in vitro techniques (e.g. autoradiography, binding affinities, Scatchard analysis etc.).
- Pre-clinical evaluation of PET radiopharmaceuticals using in vivo techniques (e.g. rodent and primate microPET imaging, dosimetry and biodistribution, metabolism and pharmacokinetic studies).
- Translation of radiopharmaceuticals into clinical trials including:
- Expertise in regulations governing production of PET radiopharmaceuticals for clinical use (including synthesis of radiopharmaceuticals according to cGMP (21-CFR-212) and/or USP Chapter <823>).
- Required content and preparation of Investigational New Drug Applications (INDs) and New Drug Applications (NDAs / ANDAs).
- Shipping of radiopharmaceuticals in the United States according to DOT Regulations (49 CFR).
