Nanotechnology Aspects of Biosensing and Bio-reactions in the Gas Phase

Dave deLesdernier

Abstract: With the recent outbreak of E. coli contaminated foods and the continuing threat of bioterrorism, detection of minute levels of pathogens is the subject of numerous research activities. Current USDA protocols take 8+ hours to detect E. coli in beef samples. Antibody coated piezoelectric mass sensors capable of detecting a single cell can reduce this detection time to less than 15 minutes. David deLesdernier will present the nano-scale aspects of liquid and gas phase biochemical reactions with emphasis on immunosensors for pathogen detection. An extension of the technical discussion will include the commercialization pathways for university research.
