Growth and Success as a Consultant

Abstract: Living the life of a scientific consultant can be an exciting adventure into the unknown or a disappointing and trying process. Burton Todd will give an overview of his experiences as a consultant in training and technical support in analytical chemistry. He will share some of the pitfalls he has experienced and the insights he has gained in his consultant work. Time will be provided at the end of the presentation so that others can share their adventures in consulting with the group.

Biography:Burton S. Todd has over 35 years of experience in chromatography method development, application support and operator training. For the past 8 years he has been a consultant to chromatography laboratories through his company ChromLab. As a consultant he has experienced the highs and lows of this chosen career path but has also experienced personal and financial growth during each year of this adventure.

After graduating from Lafayette College with a degree in chemistry he worked as an analytical chemist, first at Merck & Co. in West Point, PA, then at McNeil Laboratories in Fort Washington, PA. He joined the Perkin-Elmer Corporation in 1972 where he worked with the field sales force as a technical support specialist in gas and liquid chromatography, GC/MS and chromatography data systems for 23 years.

Location: The Cynwyd Club, 332 Trevor Lane, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. From I-76 drive S on City Line Ave. (US Rte. 1). Turn right on Conshohocken State Rd. (Rte. 23); stay in right lane. After second light watch for white left-turn arrows painted on street (about .14 mi/750 ft). Do not follow Rte. 23 left at turn but instead go straight ahead onto Llandrillo Rd. (passing to right of Valley Press printing). In one block bear left onto Trevor Lane at stop sign. Clubhouse and parking are on the left. Please park in lot if space is available; otherwise park on Trevor Lane. If lost, call the club at 610-667-4524

Fee, including food and beverages, is $20 provided reservations are made before 6 PM Friday, April 9th; $25 if made subsequently by 10 AM Monday, April 12th If no reservation is made by the final deadline, food and beverages will not be available unless a cancellation occurs. No-shows will be invoiced. No reservation is required for talk only; however, we ask that you please register so that we can notify you of any change in plans.
