Past Meetings
The November 16, 2000 meeting of the CCN was held in conjunction with the rest of the local ACS section at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
The steering committee meeting was postponed; instead, the Tally Committee met to count the votes for the election of Chairman-elect and for the open position of member-at-large of the Stheering Committee for the 2001 season.
The Tally Committe consisted of Norman Santora and Wolf Karo.
A total of 49 votes had been cast. The results were:
Chairman-elect: Edward Brame
Member-At-Large: Robert Haluska.
Note for future election procedures: Provide at least one letter opener to the Tally Committee.
Mike Bigwood called the meeting to order at 6PM; attendance was approximately 20 in our session.
The speaker of the evening was introduced by Bill Reuter.
Topic:
Conventional procedures for developing new drugs can take 10 to 15 years; unfortunately, only 10% may make it to market.
Combinatorial techniques are designed to reduce the time to launch and are also designed to produce large chemical libraries, and there is also developed techniques to assay the biological activities of the library members quickly.
After a lively discussion, the meeting was adjourned for dinner.

Biography:
Dr. Dolle received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Arizona
State University and a M.S. degree in Medicinal Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania in 1985. Dr. Dolle is the recipient of the "Dean's Scholar Award: in recognition of his thesis research, the total synthesis of aurodox and efrotoycin.
Dr. Dolle began his industrial career as a medicinal chemist at SmithKline Beecham in 1985, spending three of five years on assignment in England. During this time he served as a group leader, then Assistant Director, for several antiinfective and cardiovascular discovery projects. He then joined Sterling Winthrop in 1990 where his medicinal chemistry team focused primarily on inflammation targets. He served as an Associate Director of Chemistry co-chair for the chronic inflammatory disease program whose collective efforts led to the idenification of pre-clinical candidates for eastase, caspase-1 and the matrix metalloproteases. In 1994, he moved into the biotechnology sector as Director of Chemistry at Pharmacopeia. He is the author or co-author of over 80 scientific publications and 30 patents.
