Topic:"Affordable Insurance for Consultants including Professional Liability and Long Term Care"

Abstract:The professional liability insurance program briefly described to the CCN membership in 1998 is now available. Ena Castro will update us on the benefits of signing on for this important business coverage and about other programs provided to ACS members. In these litigous times, one of the most discussed subjects among consultants and other self employed chemists and chemical engineers is the need for affordable and meaningful libaility insurance. Many of them share the nightmare that they will be wiped out defending themselves in a frivolous lawsuit. Please attend this meeting if you wish to hear more about reasonably priced, specially designed professional liability insurance, which is available to members of ACS and AIChE and about the cost and benefits of the ACS Long Term Care insurance plan.
Participants: Ms. Ena Castro, Manger of the Member Insurance Program has been directing the search for a Professional Liability Plan under the guidance of a Task Force of the ACS Board of Insurance Trustees. For the past 18 months, she has been working with an insurance broker (Bradley & Parker, Inc.) who has made arrangements with Lloyds of London to underwrite the plan. The ACS Board of Insurance Trustees, sponsors and endorses a variety of insurance and supplemental retirement plans for ACS members. The Board, which consists of nine ACS members, has oversight responsibilities for the Program which is administered by staff in the Member Insurance Office at ACS headquarters.

- Dr. Peter A. Christie (Armstrong World Industries, Lancaster, PA) has been a member of the Board of trustees since 1991 and is the current chair.
- Dr. John A. Whittle (Lamar University, Beaumont, TX) has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1993 and is a member of the Professional Liability Task Force.
- Dr. George F. Paladino (University of Pennsylvania) has been a member of the Board of Trustees since 1995 and is a member of the Professional Liability Task Force.
