Topic: Economic Value Added: Basic Concepts and Issues for Consultants. Peter J. Joyce, PE - President of Specialty Chemical Services, Inc.

Abstract: when companies are not generating cash flow that covers the opportunity cost of capital, they are losing value in spite of how much money they may be earning. Thus companies can make money while losing value since the capital investor could earn the same returns somehwere else at the same level of risk. This seeming paradox will be explored in detail since it is the driving force for disruptive change in many industries including the chemical industry. The opportuity for consultants is to ensure that he or she provides value added services that are in alignment with these financial drivers. The fundamentals of "value added" in a finacncial context and ways in which the consultant can position him/herself in this still developing arena will be covered.
