Abstract:
Dr. MacFadyen provides computer instruction to older adults. She identified this unfulfilled market niche 3 years ago and built a business, MacFadyen Learning Enterprises, around it. Although older adults are her "end users", it is often their grown children who are her "customers." She must target both of these populations within communities which are affluent enought to support her services.

Few of us have as clear a focus as does Dr. MacFadyen on what we provide and to whom we sell it. Our May program will describe strategies for defining a market and reaching the people you need to reach to advance your business.

Biography:
Dr. MacFadyen holds a BA in Sociology from Wheaton College (IL), a BS in Nursing from Columbia University, a MS and a PhD in Education from the University of Pennsylvania. She has been a staff nurse at Lankenau and Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center Hospitals; she did classroom teaching, as well as, curriculum coordination at the Presbyterian-University of Pennsylvania Medical Center School of Nursing; and she has been a charge nurse in local retirement communities. Prior to starting the computer instruction business, she was a program manager in the Polymer Products Department at DuPont. MacFadyen Learning Enterprises draws on Dr. MacFadyen's strenghts in professional marketing and her hands-on experience with geriatric patients.
